Under Par, But Not Out!

What makes people want to write? For me it is a release of words, the need to put down my thoughts, ideas and set them free. For other people it may be different, for each person a different set of rules and sense of purpose. I watched an episode of ‘Morse’ tonight and marvelled at the writing, whether it was Colin Dexter’s or a script-writers, it still flowed through to a wonderful conclusion. That would be my ultimate dream to write a ‘Thriller’, which could be made into a really good drama. I think being a daughter of a former police officer, has given me an interest in detective crimes and I am curious, however, from a psychological perspective, about the workings of the criminal mind. Meanwhile, I am very happy to be able to assemble a children’s book, with pictures to match! I am working on that and hoping to produce at least one good book, by the end of the year. I have written four children’s books and have enjoyed the process, greatly. This has given me a sense of purpose and a direction, in my life, that would have been sadly lacking, had I not, evaluated what I wanted and indeed needed to do with my writing and life. Sometimes our lives reach a crisis point before we truly face a time when we have to decide where we go from here. I will only have one ‘innings’ and this is it. Please watch this space and see what I can achieve.

Oils, Watercolour and Acrylic

As an artist, I like to paint in various mediums. I have favoured watercolours, for some considerable time, as they were accessible and ‘easier’ for me to use, even from an early age. I liked the softness and feel of them, although didn’t master the fluidity, until some years later. As the years, passed by, I became more interested in acrylics and oils, which offered some variety and fun. The paints were ‘gloopier’ and more malleable. I suddenly lost some of the intrinsic restraint that I had felt with watercolours; I could splodge and move the paint around.

I find, now that painting brings me great joy and freedom and stops any feeling of  negativity from entering the old grey matter. Art Therapy? Oh yes, when I can become totally absorbed by drawing and painting. There is always the thought that I am lucky to be able to do this wonderful pastime. I would encourage anyone to take up their pencils or buy a box of paints and give it a try, you never know, you may just enjoy it too!

Summer is a-coming!

I just had a trundle around the garden and thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous flowers blooming. The aquiliegias, forget-me-nots, cornflowers, pansies, bluebells, peonies, coronilla, cowslips, geraniums and aubretia are all out and looking good. The scents from the coronilla and bluebells, are particularly heady. I think I like late May and into June, as the garden definitely looks at it’s best, then. The oriental poppies are budding up and I love to see their blousy fullness and their tissue paper petals. Most of the trees have burst their buds now and that adds to the carpet of greenness. One of my favourite plants is Solomon’s Seal, which is pictured above. It is delicate and likes to grow up through other plants. It reminds my of the delicacy of Lily-of-the- Valley. I like to take photographs of all these lovely flowers and sometimes catch the odd insect or two.

Current Work and ‘Doing’ Pain….

Do I work? Well the answer to that is a vague one; I do work, but then very sporadically, the reason being is that my kind of life-style is dictated by my health ‘challenges’, shall we say? I work when my health allows and generally manage to live a fairly pared-down existence, by most peoples’ standards! I am a happy person, not by nature, but by nurture. I have learned to live productively and holistically. At present, I have a number of projects on the go, including studying for an Open University degree in psychology, painting pictures to sell on-line and also working to produce my four story books for children. As my attention is gently scattered over each area of creativity, I know that I do have to have a lot of patience and having that has helped me through many years of living with ME/CFS. I’m not bitter about my current predicament, in fact, although I have extensive nerve damage, my mind is happier than it has ever been. I think it took me years to finally come to realise, that the way I was thinking was effectively ruining my life. I try now to live ‘in the moment’ and enjoy what I have. We all lack things, that we think we need or want, but our basic sense of ‘being’ and the happiness and love, in our lives, are fundamentally the most  important elements. Nothing else really matters. The happier we are then the healthier we are, so bearing that in mind, I am now travelling a path, which in truth, could be the best journey, ever. I am using my mind to bring me into the realms of wellness, not illness and I feel like I am getting there. As for the art, studies and writing, they are the tools to make my travels even more enjoyable and rewarding.

We never stop learning and that is a truth. We never stop growing and that is a fact. We should never stop loving, giving and being happy, seeing the joy and not the sadness and madness. Never give up on life, but really live every day and take heart, that if you fill your life with good and wonderful experiences, then you will have no regrets or future pain.

Blogging and wondering……………..

Well, yesterday I spent most of the day painting and putting together a Woodlandia Page on Face Book. I put my paintings it and all the blurb and it took quite some time to do. I even acquired a fair few followers. Then later in the evening, the said page, had completely disappeared. Yes all trace of the blinking thing. I had hoped it would have re-appeared today, but it’s gone. Now I don’t know what FB is doing, but something very odd is afoot. I am now slowly trying to piece together another page, as to whether or not people will re-join, is another matter entirely. I’m sure there wasn’t a big red delete button, as surely even a numpty, like me, would have seen it!

I have messed with technology

Well, yesterday, I spent quite some time on this blog, tweaking and experimenting. Emma, from Meg & Millie, helped me out, when I went off course. Bless her! I find, as many people do, that if I play around with these sort of dashboardy-wotsits, then eventually suss out one or two important facts. This would have taken probably 2 hours compared  to a techie taking 2 seconds. Still I taught myself how to use the PC in a few weeks and of course have been learning ever since. There are many people to ask, but sometimes personal trial and error makes sure you sort of embed it into your grey matter, in a much more satisfactory way………I am hesitating, as I really don’t know what happens next!

Well, the first thing to remember, is…….New Beginnings

The first thing to remember, is that my PC got hit badly by a trojan, last year and my files got badly damaged, after the assault. It basically meant that I lost all my poetry and my artwork and general photographs, became a mangled mess of misery. I have one folder with 32,000+ pictures in it and half are ruined the others in jumbled order. It will take a long time to sort them, but I thoroughly intend to. I am going through all the accessible pictures and watermarking them for the Shopping Gallery. Life is meant to be a challenge, if you see every challenge as an opportunity.

On a lighter note, the wonderful Dr David R Hamilton has helped me, with replying to a question I had about self-healing. He is a lovely man and he had time to do that, for me. I now, feel much more focussed on the visualisations to help heal my nervous system. Life is good! Thank you David!
